Each year, your UF LGBTQ+ Alumni will accept nominations to complete its Board of Directors to serve our community for the next year. Each term lasts one year beginning in July and ending each June.
Please review the following job descriptions and time commitments for each of the Board positions.
President: The President shall preside at all Affiliate, Board, and executive committee meetings, appoint chairs or committee members, and perform other duties as prescribed. The President shall convene the Board for regular meetings; create the strategic plan for the Affiliate working in conjunction with the full Board; and shall be responsible for executing and/or delegating responsibilities to accomplish the Affiliate’s objectives. Time commitment: 4-8 hours per month.
Vice President: The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in the absence or disability of the President. The Vice President shall be an active participant in Board meetings and the routine business undertaken by the Board. The Vice President shall perform ancillary duties assigned by the President to support the successful implementation of Board activities and initiatives. The Vice President assumes the role of President at the end of the current President’s term. Time commitment: 3-6 hours per month.
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall assist in the oversight of funds of the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni. The Treasurer shall keep a full and accurate account of the organization’s receipts and expenditures and shall be the liaison to the University of Florida Alumni Association (UFAA) to request disbursements as authorized by the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall lead Board efforts to identify fundraising strategies that support the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month.
Secretary: The Secretary shall record the minutes of all meetings of the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni and shall ensure a record is maintained that documents the major activities, initiatives, and programs undertaken by the affiliate. The Secretary shall perform such other duties as may be delegated by the Board. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month.
Vice President, Communications: The Vice President of Communications is responsible for managing external communications including public and media relations, social media, website maintenance, newsletter, blog, graphic design, and overall creative direction. Time commitment: 6-8 hours per month.
Director, Outreach: The Director of Outreach assists in increasing the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni and UFAA membership. This role is responsible for engaging with alumni and members, promoting UFAA membership benefits at events, including assisting with identifying incentives for UFAA members. The Director of Outreach is also responsible for fundraising efforts for the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni in conjunction with the Treasurer. Time commitment: 2-4 hours per month (varies based on event/program schedule).
Director, Academics: The Director of Academics is responsible for coordinating the scholarship efforts of the Association of LGBTQ+ Alumni, including preparing application forms, creating evaluation rubrics, and coordinating with the Treasurer and UFAA staff to award funds to recipients. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month.
Director, Young Alumni: The Director of Young Alumni is responsible for outreach to young alumni aged 21-40. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per month.
Director, Volunteers: The Director of Volunteers is responsible for recruiting volunteers and coordinating with other board members to ensure necessary support for events, initiatives, and programs. Time commitment: 2-4 hours per month (varies based on event/program schedule).
Member-at-Large: This position is appointed by the President with the support of the Board of Directors. Time commitment: Highly variable depending upon needs for various events/programs.
